In Iron Eagle II, American actor Louis Gossett, Jr. reprises his role as \"Chappy\" Sinclair, a middle-aged U.S. Air Force officer. His protégé from the first film, Doug Masters, is killed off in the opening scene, clearing the way for a plot unique from the first: A joint U.S.-Soviet air squadron is formed to destroy a rogue Middle-Eastern nation's nuclear capabilities, only to have cold war prejudices and mistrust threaten the mission before it even begins. Mark Humphrey (E.N.G.) takes the role of a hunky young American hothead. Others in the Dirty Dozen-style cast include: Stuart Margolin, Maury Chaykin, Jason Blicker, Clark Johnson, Alan Scarfe and Colm Feore. Written by Kevin Elders and Sidney J. Furie (who directed this, as well as the original), the character development is average and the cast is good. --D.K.
